While the Churchill Room today still evokes an old world charm, it has evolved with the times to offer fine dining cuisine using modern cooking methods. Our menus are specially curated by Churchill Room Chef Aaron, who honed his culinary skills in a 2-star Michelin restaurant in Germany and established restaurants in Resorts World Sentosa and Marina Bay Sands.

The History
The Churchill Room – still unnamed at that time – was first opened on 22 November 1957, the night of the annual Tanglin ball, and was well-received by Members. A bottle of Black Label whisky was offered as the prize for a suitable name which should have ‘home or London associations’. Six Members suggested the ‘Churchill Room’ and lots had to be drawn for the prize, finally won by Mr A.T. de B. Wilmot.
The new Churchill Room was an instant success, so successful that the kitchen could not cope. A special circular was sent to Members explaining the situation and urging their cooperation, such as asking large dinner parties to order a set menu rather than à la carte.
Despite being 8,000 miles away, Sir Winston Churchill was not totally unaware of the room named in his honour. In 1957, Club President Dr Robert Calderwood had written to request a signed photograph of Sir Winston which he collected and presented to the Club in September 1958 with Churchill’s best wishes; the present whereabouts of this, unfortunately, is not known.
